Founded in 1989 as an association under the July 1, 1901 law, the Japanese School of Nord–Pas-de-Calais is located in Villeneuve d’Ascq.
Situated in a residential area, just 7 minutes from the Triolo metro station, the school benefits from the facilities provided by the City of Villeneuve d’Ascq, its main partner.
Spanning from Paris to the Belgian border, the Japanese School is the only institution in this region organized by and for Japanese and Franco-Japanese citizens. It serves as a meeting place for the Japanese community and offers classes for children. Currently, around 40 Japanese students attend our school.
JAPANESE CLASSES
The courses taught in Japanese are accredited by Japan’s Ministry of Education. Their primary goal is to help students reintegrate into the Japanese school system.
JAPANESE CLASSES FOR FRENCH SPEAKERS
In response to the growing demand from people eager to learn or improve their Japanese, the school offers evening classes for adults and Wednesday afternoon sessions for teenagers.
PRIVATE LESSONS (French for Japanese speakers or Japanese for French speakers)
Private or group lessons are available for beginner to advanced levels in either French or Japanese.

MEETUPS, CULTURE, AND LEISURE ACTIVITIES
Beyond its educational role, the school serves as a gathering and exchange hub for Japanese families and anyone interested in Japanese culture. Traditional leisure activities such as Shodo (calligraphy) are offered to the public.
Additionally, the school has a library of Japanese-language books for both children and adults.
